Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, NJ
Opening Acts: Pop Evil and Sick Puppies

I must admit I was a little skeptical about going to see Seether play at the Starland Ballroom last night. I saw them there in October 2009 and I was not impressed. I remember saying to myself that it was as if they hadn’t played together in awhile because they were out of sync with each other. The vocals were lacking too (sorry Shaun!). On top of that they had lots of sound problems due to rented equipment. I just figured they were one of those bands that didn’t play well live. I decided to give them another try because they are my favorite rock band. So after a grueling 2.5 hour trip during rush hour traffic and pouring rain my 13 year old and I arrived at the Starland Ballroom. We paid a little extra to get on a shorter line and got to stand dead center 2nd row. Cool! A couple of opening bands and almost three hours later,  Seether took the stage. They opened with the same song as last time, No Jesus Christ, and I thought a carbon copy performance was on the way. I was wrong. What walked out on that stage was the most amazing 4 musicians I have ever seen. I’m not a music techie but I can tell you that they sounded great. They played perfect together and rocked the house down. Morgan played his guitar throughout the whole show and his vocals were so amazing that I could do little more than stare and let the sound wash over me. At one point, during an incredible rendition of Wham’s Careless Whisper that would make George Michael want to sing again, I saw Shaun smile at his guitar player which made it obvious that even he was happy with the performance. It was a far cry from last time when he was kicking amps over in frustration. I would categorize their music as hard rock, with the perfect mixture of a heavy, rocking beat to softer ballads. Don’t get me wrong, you probably won’t hear this music on pop radio! Seether is definitely one of the most underrated and overlooked bands out there right now. Although you wouldn’t know it by the screaming, singing fans! I’m glad I went back, it was an experience that will stay with me for a long time and I am thankful that talented musicians like this share their gifts with the rest of us. I couldn’t imagine a world without great music!
