Best of 2011: “My Week with Marilyn” Feb22

Best of 2011: “My Week with Marilyn”

I liked this film for many reasons chief of which is because I had a similar experience with an older woman. Expertly cast which was ideal for this little known story about a young man who gets to nearly have his way with none other than Marilyn Monroe for a week. Michelle Williams was a good choice to play Marilyn. She more embodied the spirit of the afore mentioned than actually looking like her. I recently viewed The Prince and The Showgirl and was really bored by it but this film about the making of that film was far more enrapturing because of all the intricacies in making even not so good films. Be on the lookout for Eddie Redmayne who...

Talking About the “V” Word Feb13

Talking About the “V” Word

On March 15, 16, and 17th eighteen women from all over Rockland County will be performing monologues about vaginas. The approximately hour and a half performance is part of a worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls and is a part of V-Day. The women span in age from 18 to approximately 65. The facilitator, Arielle Bareket, grew up in Suffern and her Dad is a gynecologist in Tallman. Arielle’s Mom, Kathryn, is a mother of three daughters and a son. The word vagina was used hundreds of time in their home over the years. After using the word so much at home, she thought it would be fun to say the word repeatedly on stage and...

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Feb08

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

WESTCHESTER, NY – A gala evening was had by all at the ‘official’ opening night performance of ‘Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ at the Westchester Broadway Theatre on Friday evening, February 3. The evening started off with the management and staff of the WBT giving a fond farewell and salute to its Executive Chef Tony Dinis who has been with the WBT since the theatre first opened its doors in July of 1974. Kicking off the start of Black History Month, and the impact that this powerfully packed, emotionally filled musical tells, News 12 anchor Brian Conybeare took to the microphone and...

Best of 2011: “Rango” Feb08

Best of 2011: “...

Gore Verbinski has always had a magic touch for me  – at least some of the time. His movies feel a little bit smarter than usual Hollywood fare and Rango is no exception. The animation is superb to say the least and just feels good to watch. The story fits so flawlessly with the...

Best of 2011: “Beginners” Feb04

Best of 2011: “Beginners”

I loved this film from the moment Ewan McGregor and Mélanie Laurent meet. A truly realistic (as can be) love story between two people that are attracted to one another with a gay dad thrown in for good measure. Mike Mills is a director who I believe will keep turning out good work as long as he keeps making stories close to his heart. His art may leave something to be desired but is nearly instantly recognizable when gazed upon. This movie challenges the viewer with the idea that relationships always seem to be euphoric in the beginning and then quickly fade into fecal matter because the real person shows up. So is there any point to...

Best of 2011: “The Artist” Feb02

Best of 2011: “...

What a great film and my choice for best picture oscar. It took a lot of will power and gusto to get this film made in an age where no one wants to see a black and white film, especially one that is silent. The leads are extraordinary in their only slightly histrionic performances and all...
