It's just one of many examples but Democracy Prep (http://www.democracyprep.org/) is viciously for students first (perhaps to a fault?) and has seen great success.

I know them because I used to do their network engineering, years ago, and happened across one of their most effective principals, Seth Andrews, at a recent education panel.

Yes this has been an obvious downfall in our evolution as a country. Students first, teachers second, they always forget that.

First get the ineffectual teachers out of the classroom then get them off the payroll. The UFT has become way too powerful and has only its members best interest at heart. The Union will not agree on anything that evaluates their teachers or be made to do anything it doesn't want to. If the governor needs to use strong arm tactics and ultimatums to get the Union to comply then so be it. It's time to let them know that they are not the be all end all in education in New York and that the students they are supposed to serve are more important than the teachers.

Ideally, education is not a race, it's a constant evolution. But how do you evolve something that is decades behind?

In 1947, with the creation of the Educational Testing Service, New York pushed for standardized education and hasn't stopped. (http://bit.ly/xJfu6X)

In a world of digital empowerment, freedom of information, easy global travel and interaction, Cuomo is far from an evil dictator.

More like a guy trying to improve an outdated system as quickly as possible, for the sake of the children, who are effected for better or worse every day, and in the only time he is guaranteed to have influence...it's just two years until the next election.

Violence towards woman is in everyone's backyard as is evident by the recent headlines of a trial involving a young Rockland County woman who has been supposedly abused by her husband and his family. These performances are a wonderful way to create awareness of this issue. I will see you there.

Great review. Dining there reminded me of being on stage at an off-off Broadwat theatre, yes, being served in the midst of the play, where in fact,,the dining experience is the play.
And for a more serene dining experience, go right smack next door, to Cafe Portofino. That would be the little romantic joint, right next door to the off-off broadway theatre.
